Halftones & Print Performance

Understanding halftones and when they make sense for your project

What Are Halftones?

Halftones are a printing technique that converts solid blocks of color into tiny dots. This reduces heavy ink buildup on fabric and can make prints more breathable and flexible.

When used properly, halftones help prevent cracking over time and give the shirt a softer, more natural feel compared to printing large solid areas of ink.

Important: We do not automatically apply halftones to standard orders. Halftone work is only available as a paid design service with an approval process.

When Should You Consider Halftones?

Halftones are most beneficial for designs with large color areas, gradients, or when printing on lighter garments where breathability is important. They are less necessary for small designs, text-only graphics, or highly detailed artwork.

Using halftones strategically in combination with the shirt’s natural color can create excellent looking prints that feel lighter and more comfortable to wear.

Our Recommendation

For most standard orders, you can simply upload clean, full-color designs. Our system is tuned to produce good results without halftones. If you have a specific project where you believe halftones would improve the final product, please contact us to discuss design services.
